Workprint 0.1.0 is a public beta. The Mac and Windows apps run locally. Read the platform notes below before installing.

The Windows beta is available as a direct download and is not publisher-signed. The Mac download is pending Apple signing and notarization. Neither is an App Store release.

Install on Windows

  1. Download the Windows beta installer for Windows 11 on a 64-bit Intel or AMD computer.
  2. Open the installer and install for your own Windows account. Administrator access and a separate .NET installation are not required.
  3. Open Workprint. Choose “Start counting locally” after reading the privacy introduction, or explore with tracking off.
  4. Closing the window keeps Workprint in the tray. Double-click the tray icon to reopen it, or choose Quit from its menu to stop the app.

The installer is not Authenticode-signed. Windows can warn about an unknown publisher or prevent launch. If your device or organization blocks unsigned apps, wait for the signed release. These beta downloads do not change your system security settings.

Mac release status

The native Mac app is built for macOS 14 or later, with Apple Silicon and Intel support. Public download is pending Developer ID signing and Apple notarization. We will add the disk image to the website after verification.

Allow Input Monitoring on Mac

  1. In Workprint's setup, request access.
  2. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Input Monitoring.
  3. Enable Workprint. If it is missing, use + and choose Workprint in Applications.
  4. Return to Workprint. Permission status checks itself. A restart is unnecessary when your real activity is already being counted.
  5. If macOS asks you to quit and reopen, follow its prompt. During permission setup a temporary helper prepares to reopen the app. The in-app restart action waits for that helper and brings back the main window.

What has been checked?

The Mac build has automated aggregation, storage, rendering and restart checks. The Windows build has automated core checks and native Windows screen and image-export tests, Raw Input registration, silent installation, opening the installed app and uninstallation. Physical input behavior, accessibility and different computer configurations still need broader beta testing.

Why are some events missing?

Secure Input and operating-system restrictions can hide events. Pausing, excluded apps, sleep, or a missing Mac permission stop counting. Words and distances are estimates. Workprint never reads text to make those estimates more precise.

Pause, export, or delete

Use the menu bar on Mac or the tray menu on Windows to pause. Settings includes app exclusions, retention, aggregated JSON export, and deletion. Share cards are saved locally and are never posted automatically.

Update or uninstall

Before installing a new beta, quit Workprint and export any history you want to keep. Install the new version over the existing one. On Windows, uninstall using Settings → Apps. On Mac, remove the app from Applications. Uninstalling leaves your activity files in your user profile; delete activity in Workprint Settings first if you want it removed.
